How X4Fix works

Customers post what they need. Providers who offer that service nearby accept and chat. The customer chooses whom to hire.

How X4Fix works

  1. Post a service request

Say what you need, where and when. No account needed to start.

  2. Matched providers are notified

Providers who offer that service in your area get your request.

  3. Compare who accepted

Every provider who accepts opens a chat with you; an estimate may come with it.

  4. Hire, then review

Pick a provider, and leave a review when the job is done.

A request's journey

From posting to done

Every service request moves through the same stages. Here is what each one means.

  1. Posted

You describe the job, where and when. As a guest, your request waits for an account before providers can accept it.

  2. Matched

Providers who offer the service in your area see the request and can accept or decline it.

  3. Accepted

Each provider who accepts opens a chat with you. An estimate may come with it.

  4. Hired

You choose one provider who accepted. The request then takes no new acceptances.

  5. Completed

When the job is done, you mark the request as completed. Your provider can ask you to.

Other ways a request can go

  • The hire ends

If the job isn't going ahead, the request opens again and you can hire another provider who accepted it, or cancel it.

  • Cancelled

You can cancel your request while it is open. Providers then no longer see it.

  • Expired

If nothing happens on a request for a while, it expires and providers no longer see it. You can post it again.

Questions

For customers

Do I need an account to post a request?
No. You can post as a guest with your name, email and, if you like, your phone number. Your request is matched with providers straight away, but they can accept it only once it belongs to an account: sign up or sign in with the same email address, verify it, and choose "Add to my account".
When can providers contact me?
Only after they accept your request - accepting opens a chat with you. Before that, a provider sees your request, your first name and the area of the job. They never see your surname or email address. What providers see about you
What is an estimate?
A provider's price estimate for the job, sent with their acceptance: one amount, sometimes with a short message. It is optional and non-binding. It helps you decide whom to hire, and the provider can update it until you hire someone. Agree the final price with the provider you hire.
What happens after I hire someone?
Your request takes no new acceptances, and you keep chatting with the provider you hired. When the job is done, mark the request as completed. If the job isn't going ahead, end the hire: the request opens again for the other providers who accepted it, or you can cancel it.
How do reviews work?
You can review a provider who accepted your request, once per request, within 90 days of their acceptance. Providers can also collect reviews from their own clients through an invite link. Every review shows which way it arrived. How reviews work
What if no one accepts my request?
If nothing happens on your request for a while, it expires and providers no longer see it. You can post it again at any time.

For providers

Which requests will I get?
Requests for the services you offer, from locations inside your service area. Each one reaches you as a match that you can accept or decline.
Do I have to send an estimate?
No. Accepting without an estimate is a full yes. If you send one, it is a single amount with an optional message. You can replace it until the customer hires someone, but you can't withdraw it.
When do I see the customer's details?
After you accept. You then also see their last initial, the exact job location and their phone number if they share it, and you can chat with them. You never see their surname or email address.
How do I collect reviews?
A customer whose request you accepted can review you within 90 days of your acceptance. You can also share your own invite link with past clients - they confirm their review with a code we email them.
