Trust & safety

The rules X4Fix enforces: how reviews are collected, how providers are ordered, what providers see about you, and how to tell us when something is wrong.

Anything this page doesn't describe, we don't check. That includes a provider's identity, qualifications and insurance, and the quality of their work - ask the provider about these directly.

How reviews work

Every review is labelled with where it came from. The two kinds are checked differently.

X4Fix job

  • Tied to a job request the provider accepted on X4Fix.
  • Only the customer who posted the request can leave one - once per request, within 90 days of the provider accepting it.
  • The acceptance is all it confirms. We don't check that the provider was hired, that the job took place, or that anyone was paid.

External

  • Collected by the provider through their own invite link, which they can share with anyone - including customers they found outside X4Fix.
  • The reviewer confirms their review with a 6-digit code we email them. One review per email address per provider.
  • We don't check that they hired this provider, or that any job took place.

Both kinds count toward a provider's score: the average star rating, from 1 to 5, of all their published reviews.

A review is published as soon as it is submitted - an external one once its code is confirmed. Providers can reply to a review, but can't edit or delete one.

Reporting a problem

Report a provider

Anyone can report a provider's profile, signed in or not. Open the profile, choose "Report this profile", pick what's wrong and describe it. Your email is optional, so we can follow up if needed.

The X4Fix team reviews every report. You'll see that it arrived, but not a status or an outcome.

Report a review

When signed in, choose "Report" on any review and tell us why it should be checked.

A report doesn't hide a review by itself - the X4Fix team decides. A review they hide stops counting toward the provider's score.

How providers are ordered

Search results list the providers who offer the service you chose and whose service area covers your location. You choose the order:

Nearest
The default. Providers based near you come before those working nationwide, then by straight-line distance, then by rating.
Top rated
Highest average rating first, then the most reviews. Every published review counts, however few a provider has.
Most reviews
Most published reviews first, then the highest average rating.

Top rated providers

A Top rated providers list only includes providers with at least 3 published reviews. They're ordered by their average rating combined with a starting rating of 4.0 stars that counts as 5 reviews, so a handful of reviews moves a provider less than many do. Ties go to the provider with more reviews.

No provider can pay for placement. There are no sponsored or promoted results, and nothing a provider pays for changes any order.

What providers see about you

Providers who offer the service in your area can see your request. What they see about you depends on whether they've accepted it.

Before they accept
Your request with its photos, your first name, your profile photo unless you've hidden it, and the area of the job with its approximate distance.
After they accept
Also your last initial, the exact job location (postcode and map position), your phone number if you've chosen to share it, and a chat with you.
Never
Your surname or your email address.

If your request is cancelled or expires, or a hire with that provider ends, they no longer see your last initial, exact location or phone number.
